How Finding Balance in Your Life Will Boost Your Success

(This was written by the CEO of Coca-Cola, Brian G. Dyson. It was used not to long ago as Georgia Tech's Commencement Address. It's AWESOME! So, I thought I would share it with you.)

Imagine life as a game in which you are juggling some five balls in the air. You name them - Work - Family - Friends - Spirit, and you are keeping all of these in the air.

You will soon come to understand that "Work" is a rubber ball. If you drop it, it will bounce back. But, the other four balls - Family - Health - Friends - Spirit, are made of glass. If you drop one of these, they will be irrevocably scuffed, marked, nicked, damaged, or even shattered. They will never be the same. You must understand that, and strive for balance in your life.

How?

1. Don't determine your worth by comparing yourself with others. It is because we are different that each of us is special.

2. Don't set your goals by what other people deem important. Only you know what's best for you.

3. Don't take for granted the things closest to your heart. Cling to them as you would your life, for without them, life is meaningless

4. Don't let your life slip through your fingers by living in the past or for the future. By living your life one day at a time, you live ALL the days of your life.

5. Don't give up when you still have something to give. Nothing is really over until the moment you stop trying.

6. Don't be afraid to admit that you are less than perfect. It is this fragile thread that binds us together.

7. Don't be afraid to encounter risks. It is by taking chances that we learn how to be brave.

8. Don't shut love out of your life by saying it is impossible to find. The quickest way to receive love is to give it. The fastest way to lose love is to hold it too tightly. And the best way to keep love is to give it wings.

9. Don't run through life so fast that you forget not only where you've been, but also where you are going.

10. Don't forget that a person's great emotional need is to feel appreciated.

11. Don't be afraid to learn. Knowledge is weightless, a treasure you can always carry easily.

12. Don't use time or words carelessly. Neither can be retrieved.

Life is not a race, but a journey to be savored each step of the way. Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, and today is a gift. That's why they call it "The Present."

What! It's just a "Penny!"

What could we possibly learn from a good old United States copper penny?

Let's see what happens when we double a penny each of 30 days in a row:

Day 1 = .01 - One Penny
Day 2 = .02
Day 3 = .04
Day 4 = .08
Day 5 = .16
Day 6 = .32
Day 7 = .64 - End of Week 1
Day 8 = 1.28
Day 9 = 2.56
Day 10 = 5.12
Day 11 = 10.24
Day 12 = 20.48
Day 13 = 40.96
Day 14 = 81.92 - End of Week 2
Day 15 = 163.84
Day 16 = 327.68
Day 17 = 655.36
Day 18 = 1,310.72
Day 19 = 2,621.44
Day 20 = 5,242.88
Day 21 = 10,485.76 - End of Week 3
Day 22 = 20,971.52
Day 23 = 41,943.04
Day 24 = 83,886.08
Day 25 = 167,772.16
Day 26 = 335,544.32
Day 27 = 671,088.64
Day 28 = 1,342,177.28 - End of Week 4
Day 29 = 2,684,354.56

Day 30 = $5,368,709.12

What! It's just a "Penny!"

CONCLUSION: "STICK WITH IT!!"

WOW!! I guess we'd better get busy!!

"Quitting" is NOT an Option!

Recently, during one of my Live On-line Meetings, I talked about how most people, when the going gets tough, take the easy way out and quit! That is so sad! But, it's a fact! "Quitting" is a disease and will follow you until your life's end. Just the thought of "quitting" turns my stomach!

The pages of history are loaded with accounts of great victories that were won by those who maintained the attitude that "Quitting" is NOT an option! Here's a glimpse of some:

>> When Thomas Edison invented the light bulb, he tried over 2000 times before he got it right. A reporter asked him how it felt to fail so many times. Mr. Edison said, "I never failed once. I invented the light bulb. It just happened to be a 2000-step process."

>> In 1962, four nervous young musicians played their first record audition for the executives of the Decca Record Recording Company. The executives were not impressed. While turning them down, one executive said, "We don't like the sound. Groups of guitars are on their way out." That group was called "The Beatles!"

>> In 1944, Emmeline Snively, Director of Blue Book Modeling Agency, told modeling hopeful Norma Jean Baker, "You'd better learn secretarial work or get married." That modeling hopeful went on to become "Marilyn Monroe!"

>> In 1954, Jimmy Denny, manager of the Grand Ole Opry, fired a singer after one performance. He told him, you ain't goin' nowhere, son! You oughta go back to driving a truck." He went on to become the most popular singer in America. His name was "Elvis Presley!"

>> In 1876, when Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone, it did not ring off the hook with calls from potential backers. After making a demonstration call, President Rutherford Hayes said, "That's an amazing invention, but who would ever want to use one of them?" Here we are in 2005 and just look at what has happened. Everyone uses the telephone!

>> In the 1940s, another young inventor named Chester Carlson took his idea to 20 corporations, including some of the biggest in the country. They all turned him down. In 1947, after seven long years of rejections, he finally got a tiny company in Rochester, New York, the Haloid Company, to purchase the rights to his invention, an electrostatic paper-copying process. Haloid became Xerox Corporation!

What would have happened if these individuals had "quit?" Oh! Sure! I know what you are thinking: "Someone would have accomplished these things sometime or another." But would they have? And, if so.....When!?! Think about it!

The real truth here, Folks, is that these individuals maintained the attitude that "Quitting" is NOT an option! Let's face it! Success does not come from hanging in the "sugar and spice and everything nice" syndrome. Only through experience with trials and tribulations is our character built. Only through all these kinds of experiences do we gain strength, confidence, wisdom, and ultimately success.

So, just like the examples given here, and so many others, we must "look fear in the face," and do the things we cannot do, while remembering that if we want success, "Quitting" is NOT an option!

Would YOU go into business with YOU?

Here are some questions to consider:

1. Are you happy with yourself, your business, and your life?
2. Have you become, or are you on your way to becoming, an effective Leader?
3. Have you separated yourself from those negative people in your life?
4. Are you considered to be a person that can really help others in becoming successful?
5. More importantly, if you were looking for a Home-Based Business, right now, would YOU go into business with YOU?
6. Do you honestly feel that you are in a good position to assist a new Home-Based Business owner in becoming successful?
7. Would YOU go into business with YOU?

When considering the above questions, you really have to be honest with yourself! As a Network Marketer, you really have to be tough on yourself and realize it is time to be accountable. "Accountable to who," you ask? Accountable to YOURSELF!

So, if you are not who and where you want to be right now, it's time to change some things. Isn't that true!?! You can't blame anyone else. Why? Because YOU are the only one that can change it.

Now, after serious, thoughtful, and maybe for some.....even prayerful consideration of these 7 questions, what did you come up with? Would YOU go into business with YOU? If you can honestly answer yes, then read no further. You have it all locked in. If you answered no, then what can you do to make YOU want to go into business with YOU?

Number one.......Treat your business like a business!

Oh! I know! You have probably heard that expression a whole bunch of times, since becoming a Network Marketer. But..... are you doing it? In order to be successful in Network Marketing you must "treat your business like a business!" There are no ifs, ands, or buts about it!

You must have regular business hours. You must have certain hours that are spent on recruiting, and certain hours that you spend on self development, and certain hours that you spend on training your team, etc., etc. You cannot just work when you feel like it. That only comes once you are successful. But, in order to be successful, you need to be consistent in all your business endeavors.

Lay out your daily schedule ahead of time. Know what you are going to do today, tomorrow, and the next day. Stick to your schedule. If something happens to get in the way, then work some extra hours to make up for it. Don't forget.....You are building your business now, so you and your family can benefit and have freedom later.

Remember.....It takes time to achieve "financial" freedom. It takes time to achieve "time" freedom. You are building for the future, but..... not only your future.....You are having an impact on the future of others, as well! Yes, the majority of your efforts should eventually be on assisting others.

So, again......Would YOU go into business with YOU?

Hi Folks!

Yesterday I spoke about "Prospecting." Today I am going to take it alittle further and talk about "Sorting," which is a huge part of prospecting.

Many Leaders in Network Marketing define a sorting conversation as a quality conversation that is the next step, in the natural progression of our prospecting. These type of conversations are neccessary, in order to obtain good results.

Sorting conversatons does not only include inviting our prospect to our opportunity presentation, it first requires us to ascertain if the individual is serious about taking a look at our business, or if he/she is just "kicking the tires," so to speak.

To help us determine the seriousness of our prospect, we could ask them some get acquainted
questions. Such as:

1. John, why you are interested in starting a Home-Based Business?
2. What would a Home-Based Business do for you?
3. Do you have a family?
4. What do you do for a living?

And, if we get satisfactory answers to our questions, we would go ahead and invite the prospect to the presentation. If they turn out to be a "No Show," then we should ask ourselves:

1. Have we had to reschedule this prospect several times for the opportunity presentation? Or, are they there when they agreed to be there?
2. Are they keeping their phone appointments with us? Or, are we having to leave voice mail messages all the time, with them never calling us back?

These questions, and even more, are neccessary ingredients for a good sorting process. We need to sort like this so we can expend our efforts and give of our time to those who really want and need it.

So, as you go about building your business, don't try to convince, pursuade, and close negative people. Sort your prospects and look for the ones that are open to opportunity..........the open-minded ones.......... and keep clear of the others. They are way to much work, and are absolutely no fun to work with.

"PROSPECTING!"

Today, I want to start some talk on Prospecting. This is a subject that all of us need to really Laser Focus in on, because if we don't prospect, we are out of business. Isn't that true!?!

Looking at success ratios, etc., how many people would we need to prospect everyday, in order to achieve our goals for the month?

Let's say we have set a goal to find one Leader this month. If we consistently worked, say, Monday through Friday, for the whole month, and suppose we needed to speak with 200 people in order to identify that one Network Marketing Leader, we would need to at least converse with at least ten people on each of those 5 days, each and every week, in order to stay on track. We would need to have at least ten prospecting conversations each and every day, Monday through Friday.

Now, Folks, it becomes pretty obvious what needs to take place at this point! We would need to make a commitment to putting in the time and the effort to making these calls, ensuring at least ten conversations per day. That may require many, many, dials. But, the commitment MUST be there. (Of, course you would need leads to call, and I can help you with that. Just send me an e-mail with your name and phone number and I will contact you with the information.)

Making that commitment is really the first step in achieving our prospecting goals. The exact number of leads you would need to call in order to reach your goal of one Leader per month will vary from individual to individual. So, the only way to find out is to make the commitment and GO FOR IT!

Remember, you are making that commitment to yourself . You are making a time investment in yourself. You are making this investment in your future. You are making an investment in assisting others in finding a better way of life. You are making an investment in having a positive impact on peoples lives. Petty AWESOME, isn't it!?!

Folks..........Make the commitment today to seriously prospect. If you do, you will EXPLODE your business.

If you need assistance with any of this, I am available for Coaching and Mentoring. Please drop me an email message with your name and telephone number and I will be in touch.

Tomorrow, we will talk about "Sorting." This is a very important aspect of prospecting. Until then, I wish you the all best in your Life and your Home-Based Business!

Lou Everett, Sr. was born in a small New England city, Middletown, Connecticut, on the beautiful Connecticut River. Lou comes from a very humble background. His Father was a factory worker for over 40 years, before he retired. "Dad always would say, 'Lou, don't ever give up on your dreams!', Lou relates. "And, am I glad I listened to him on that one!"

Doreen Everett comes form a little more of an upscale background, seeing that her Father was the first Chief of Police in a beautiful town called Cheshire, Connecticut. Yes, the poor boy from the "other" side of the tracks meets a beautiful young woman from the "good" side of the tracks and falls head over heals in love.

Lou credits some of his success to paying attention to his Father's advice on never giving up on your dreams. He credits some of his success on his own determination and tenacity. However, he credits most of his success to the support he has gotten, over the last 32 years, from his lovely wife Doreen.

Lou expresses himself this way: "You know, Doreen is a blessing from God! I never would have made it this far, if it weren't for her. She has been an inspiration that has given me focus and purpose in my life. She has given me three beautiful children and all the support and encouragement a man could ever ask for. I am truly blessed."
